Stepping off the dock at Constantinople, followed by several Bishops, emmissarys and armed guard, all dressed ceremonially. He made his way through the packed streets by way of horse and carriage, whcih was open topped. He eventually reached the palace, and requested to meet with the Empress before he went to the people.

Christiana sat in silence as she read over the latest reports of the war happening in Slavic Illyria. This worried her for this war seemed to be happening on her very door step and the barbaric Huns seemed to be advancing quicker then expected.
Suddenly her head shot up as a palace guard entered the room to tell her the Pope had arrived. Her face brightened slightly and standing she quickly commanded the guard to show his Holiness in.
With a sigh of excitement and relief at his acceptance she quickly made her way around her desk and waited nervously for the Holy Father to enter.

"Hello, blessed sister!" Said the Pope as he entered. He made the sign of the cross on her forehead. "I gladly accepted the invitation to your lands, for the people of Eastern Rome have too long been sundered from those who share their blood. I will travel your capital, and visit the people. Although...with me travels an emmissary from Rome. He has counsel and issues from the Caesar which should be discussed." An emmissary tepped forward and bowed. "Will you grant me permission to take counsel with you while the Pope is on his duties, my lady?"

She smiled warmly as the Holy Father entered the room and kneeling before him she accepted the sign of the cross on her forehead with honor and solemnest. "I greet your holiness and warmly welcome you to the east." she said softly as a great joy overwhelmed her face.
"I am glad you accepted my offer and i look forward to attending a mass in the great Cathedral led by your holiness. It has been to long since the footsteps of a Pope have walked the streets of Constantinople and I will gladly Have 2 of my men accompany you as you go among the people." she smiled warmly as she waved in two of her personal Guards.
"I am intrusting you both to make sure nothing happens to our Holy Father is this Understood?!" She said sternly looking over both men.
"Yes Empress his Holiness will be kept completely safe!" Both men said as they bowed and took positions beside the pope.
Turning she looked at the emissary and nodded for him to come forward. "We may speak but only if it will not keep me from attending his Holiness's service, Please sit and tell me why Caesar has sent you here"
Again she bowed before the Pope and kissed his ring with respect before she turned and took her seat behind the desk once more.

The Pope left, blessing the house on his way out. The Emmissary spoke: "I am afraid that what I have to say is rather secret, and there are spies everywhere these days...I will discuss with you in secret." [SEE PM FROM AVITAS]
The Pope appeared before the people, and he spoke to them, of things such as "what a great honour it was" to be there, and how grand Constintiople was, even compared to Holy Rome. Then eventually he was taken to the grandest cathedral in the city, and he prepared for Mass as the crowds of poeple gathered. He awaited the arrival of the Empress from her discussions before beginning.

Standing from her desk she slowly and nodded to the Emissary. "Please Tell Caesar I will send my answer to him soon but it may be a while, for there is much I have to consider concerning this type of request." She said to the Emissary as she moved from around her desk and went to the door. “Now if you will so kind as to excuse me I wish to prepare for the Mass” Opening it for him she motioned for a guard. “Please escort the Emissary to wherever he wishes to go within reason and make sure quarters are prepared for his stay, he was not expected to be with the Holy Father upon his arraival and no place has been made for his stay. See to it”. She said in an authoritative tone with which the guard replied with a bow then quickly taking the side of the Emissary.
Closing the door behind them she slowly made her way across the room and stood looking out the window while many things ran through her head.
Upon hearing the bells of her great cathedral she turned and grabbed her shawl, walked from the room to meet two guards who waited for her exit. "Shall we go gentlemen?" she asked jokingly as she made her way from the palace and onto the street with her guards close by all the time.
A guard opened the door to her Carriage that awaited to take her to the Cathedral but raising her hand she smiled and said in a soft but commanding voice "No gentlemen I think we shall walk" and then looking to the sky with a great smile she sighed. "It is a wonderful day out.." She said the started walking down the main street of Constantinople all the while greeting her people with a smile and a wave. Before making her way to the cathedral she stopped here and there to give a few poor beggars and children some gold coins out of the purse that hung by her side.
At last standing in front of the cathedral the massive wooden doors stood open wide as she made her way in and took a seat in the first row of the pews and there sat to wait for the Popes Mass to begin.

After Christiana arrived, the Pope began. He decided to read from the chapter Gensis, as it was fitting for the new beginning between the Church of Rome and the Eastenr Romans. All the while as he spoke to the people of Constantinople about how God created the Universe and all in it, and the creation of things on Earth, he wondered what it was the Emissarry had to say. By the time the communion was handed out, he was not worrying. As he blessed each of the people and gave them the body and blood of Christ (and there were a great many people), he simply thought that he was a man of God, and the business between nations did not matter to him. Though he had agreed to take the Emissary, when he was simply invited to visit. As he blessed the Empress herself, he sensed something was on her mind, he saw it behind her eyes. After all the watchers were sat again, the prayers were said, and afew hymns sung. It seemed Constantinople had many good artists of music, for they were playing on flutes, pan-pipes, or any instrument they could find to tunes they had rarely (or never) seen before. When it was all over, the masses of folk began to leave, many of them awaiting the time they would see such a service again. They were talking of the mass the Pope would give the following Thursday, and wondered if it was true he was remaining in Constantinople that long. When all had left, the Pope went to Christiana and said:
"Would you like to talk to me, child? I see you have a confessionary box here, perhaps you would feel more comfartable talking about what weighs on your mind to one you cannot see, as such. Do join me, if you feel the need..."
Finishing, Pius walked to the confessional box and entered. He wondered if Christiana was trusting enough of him to tell the secrets that darkened her bright face.

Christina watched the holy father walk into the confessional then slowly standing up she walked over to the confessional. She opened the Door and though hesitating for a moment she slowly walked into the small room and sat down holding her bible in her hand as the small window opened up.
"Forgive me father for I have Sinned.. It has been 2 weeks since my last confession." Her voice sounded worried as she sighed slightly.
"Father.. I need your help and guidance for the questions from Caesar are not easy ones and I do not want to make the wrong choice. I must think of My Empire and its people first before I do anything and I fear that what he asks will not help my people right now in these dark and perilous times. Sadly though I also fear what might happen If my answers to these questions are wrong. Father Please I beseech you to give me your guidance and knowledge." Her voice quivered as she spoke.
As she finished she sat in silence with her eyes closed and waited for the Pope to speak all the while holding her Bible tightly in her hands and against her chest.

"Well, my child, I do not know what the Caesar has asked of you, but it seems...serious...I see you have a great deal of doubt. You must simply choose the path you feel is right for your people, their survival and happiness. I see whatever he has said has put strain on your troubled mind. I see that you fear an attack on your country? As Empress, in all things you must choose what is best for your people, and through God you may find that out. You should pray, and perhaps sleep on the choice you must make. As for me, I must tour the churches of the city and bless them, and then I shall return here for another Mass in afew days. I hope you find the answers they seek, child."

Christiana sighed slightly as she listened to the Holy father then when he had advised her she nodded and sat in silence while thinking of all that had transpired so far.
"Thank you Father... I will pray… Pray very hard and sleep on it then tomorrow I will sit and write my letter to Caesar... Thank you for your wise council. Please Holy Father when you are done blessing the churches allow me to accompany you to The Holy Land of Jerusalem where you can walk in the very footsteps of our Lord Jesus.”
Standing she slowly exited the confessional and before leaving the Cathedral she stood beside the Popes door, leaning in and whispered. “Thank you again Your Holiness for listening to me... I prey you give another Mass here before you decide to return to the west and that I may see you and take council with you at least once more before you depart..."
She sighed and held her bible close as she quickly exited the Cathedral, entered a waiting carriage and returned home.

The Pope decided that night that he would take up Christiana's offer of visiting the Holy Land, and upon his return he would speak one more Mass to the people of Constantinople. His aides and Bishops worked out that if conducted properly, he would be back in time for Christmas, and then he could speak a last special Mass, and leave for Rome, arriving back in time for the New Years preaching.
