"I would have it done after the feast, if you would have it so. Though it comes down to our Lord,"He nodded at the Pope,"To decide."

The Pope simply shrugged, and replied. "I'm ready when you are, caesar!"

St. Peter's Bascilica was filled with Christians of all nationalities from Iberia across to Rome. Many more stood outside, eager to catch a glimpse as the news spread like wildfire across the city, Western Rome and Western Europe of the momentous dual events. First, the Pope's inaugaration - and now, the marriage of two of Europe's monarchs and the union henceforth of both realms.
Standing atop the altar, Roland and Ilsabella exchanged their vows before the Pope. At the front row were gathered the highest ranking guests from Rome and elsewhere, as well as Frankish and Visigoth royalty. Clad in royal blues and crimsons of his native Burgundy and of his Frankish Kingdom, Roland stood looking at his bridge Ilsabella, clad in the finest whites and looking like a true beauty of the world. As both held each other's hand, they turned to the Pope, awaiting him to pronounce them husband and wife.

The Pope looked at the smiles on the couple's face, and happily said aloud "In the name of the church, I now pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may now kiss the bride."

Smiling and nodding his thanks to the Pope, Roland turned to Ilsabella and looked deep into her eyes as he lifted her veil. Leaning in, he kissed her deeply, a sense of elevation sweeping over him. At last it was done - he found love, a new wife, and soon he would have an heir to pass on his lands. Visigoth and Franks were one, one great Frankish Empire.

Avitas was the first to rise and applaud the newlyweds, followed by the hundreds of onlookers behind him, and soon it seemed as if all of Rome was gathered there, cheering and clapping.

Ilsabella smiled, she was joined with someone who trully cared for her. Her eyes never moved off Rolands, her heart pounding in her chest.
"We have become one, in our people and in ourselves." She said quietly to Roland, all she could do was smile.

Smiling, Roland nodded to Ilsabella, saying, "Yes... now a new age for our people can begin..." Turning, holding her hand, he stood and acknowledged the applause, saluting Caesar before he escorted his bride down along the aisle to the exit to meet the people.

Once all the formalities had been done, Roland knew of many things to do back home. "I am afraid the unification of these realms must be finished, and rebellious dukes opposed to this union put down, so peace may reign in the new Frankish Empire. I bid you all well." Then, he prepared his things and men and left for Paris.
