"Is it not allowed in this world, Agrixus, that a man can be valiant in battle and yet also gentle? If all were unlike that then this world would have naught but war, and would also be a much more unhappy place."
Spotting the many looks Pontius was recieving Avitas added: "Pay no attention to my General. Many years of war have made him slow to trust, but when he does it is wholly and loyaly."

"And so my question goes unasnwered, Avitas. I beleive the question was: Shall I be seeing any of your crusaders soon? That is, unless you have forgotten within the short time period already,"

"Hengest, it seems you are eager to fight with me. The problem is..." and then he disengaged from Ilsa, being parched and sweating slightly. He took his seat and continued."That your friend Agrixus.."He indicated the Emporer."...distacts my armies. If some sort of treaty could be made with him for the time being, then gladly I would engage in a contest of might with you. Axe versus Gladius, as you may say."

"The Axe has beaten the Gladius already, the Romano-British were crushed by my people, the Groans of the Britons went unanswered at the Roman court, I think that battle is aready decided..."
Hengest smirked and giggles leaked from his company.

Despite his tired state Avitas leapt to his feet, his hand on the head of his golden hammer Aquila which rested idle in his belt. "Then we should settle it sooner.I have tried to keep my words polite, but enough jibes you have made to my honour and my Empire's in this feast. Did the Lord of the Vandals call me here only to be ridiculed by some dog of Britain? Quickly it seems you heathens have forgotten the centuries you were ruled by the iron hand of Rome in it's glory. Perhaps the Aquila shall teach you anew?"

Madhorse bustled into the already filling hall
"Sorry I'm late," he breathed, a little out of breath "what have I missed?" every head in the hall turned to look at him "what?"

Bodyguards on both sides drew their weapons, and Hengest drew his. The Golden Sword of King Caradoc.
In Angerthas, were written the words: 'High King of Britain' upon his sword.
"You know not of what you speak, Roman. Have your beloved monks done you wrong? We Saxons descended upon the isle from Saxony and Jutland, ripping it from your pathetic rule, conqueroing it piece by piece, and doign more so in the small space of 10 years than you did in 100s,"

"If you have grown so attached to them, keep your lands, so you may feed the pups of your bitches!" Shouted Avitas, and he slammed the Aquila through the table, cleaving it into two parts.

"Gentlemen please, if you two will fight, then you will do it on a field of battle or in the ring of the amphitheatre. If the good Roman Avitas cannot take a compliment when offered, then so be it but if you choose violence then I ask that you do it in a formal way." he said as the royal guard had drawn their weapons to keep any violence contained. Agrixus looked at the Newcomer who he recognized as the King of the Norwegians. "Welcome Möttull, sorry for the problems we seem to be having, but please sit" Servants were already taking the broken table away and replacing it.

Hengest sat back calmly, and took a sip of wine, ignoring the starring Lords of Europe.
He turned then, and tried to shift the conversation. "Ah, Mottul Madhorse, new King of Norway. I welcome you, bretheren. It was a shame to see old Olav die, and especially shocking to hear it was at the hands of the Swedes, who had formerly been friends,"

"My Lord!" Pontius exclaimed, after being awoken by the Caesar "Waht is going on here?!" "Calm yourslef, Pontius" his lord replied "There have been altercations." Pontius jumped to his feet at the sounds of these words. "What has happened here?" "It is along tale I shall tell you back home. " And with those last words, Avitas swept away. He shot a glance towards Hengest's table. " The next time we shall meet will be your dying day, you Saxon Bastard! And on that day I shall bury every last man of your wretched kingdom in a heap, like the dung you are!" he shouted towards the lord and his entourage, before exiting hastily out the door.

"So be it." Said Avitas. He bowed low to Agrixus and said: "Perhaps this would have been a happier day, but alas, it is not." And with a flutter of his cape he left, his company behind him.

"Well, it seems not everyone can be expected to enjoy such diversity as is presented here. I hope that the rest of us can feast in better spirits than we just have had here." His guards sheathed their weapons and a company of them was told to escort the Romans. Aas the table was replaced the main courses came out, roast pork, duck, antelope, fish, everything cooked to perfection and made using superb spices that made your mouth water from just a whiff to your nose. More wine was brought in, and bowls and towels for washing hands. Agrixus looked at it all in raised anticipation. "Now my guests the main feast."

Roast pork was the first meat on Hengest's plate, being a big fan of it back home and hoping to tatse the North African variety presented in Carthage.
He had a bad feeling about the Romans, knowing they would attack soon. He was proud however, of holding his ground against the attacks.
