Post by King Castin I on Sept 12, 2005 0:23:37 GMT
King Castin I strode into the hall accompanied by two bodyguards who were bedecked from head to toe in chainmail and sporting fine bearskin cloaks. Castin himself was dressed likewise but he also wore a coat of fine imported silk over the chainmail which was red in colour, the colour of royality among germanic peoples. On top of his head was also a finely woven golden crown with many fine and rare jewels set upon it. As for weapons, Castin carried his sword and a small hand axe in his belt, leaving his heavier war axe behind as per the agreed terms of peace.
Castin walked toward the vandal king and said aloud, "I thank you for your invitaion and present to you this small token of my appreciation." At Castins beck, one of his bodyguards stepped forward and presented the vandal king with a sword which was finely crafted with a golden handle and an inscripition whihc read, Woe be thee who cross my path for I am a warrior's blade.

Agrixus looked in awe at the beautiful blade, much nicer tan his old legion sword, and more beautiful than his dress sword. "Welcome King Castin, your gift is most beautiful, and I must say very welcome in my Empire and palace. Now please, sit, the feast is laid before you and everything we can accomodate for you is here and a servant will respond accordingly"

Hengest smiled as the Allemani Warlord entered. Here was a powerful ally of his, and one whom he hoped to see fighting alongside him when the time came.
"Welcome, King Castin, My noble ally! I wish your lands be ever fertile under the great gods!"

Post by King Roland I on Sept 12, 2005 15:56:11 GMT
Sitting watching, Roland finally stood and regarded both Saxon and Vandal. "DO not take such innocent faces, friends: since this banquet began, both of you have sent barbed words and bitched to Rome, enticing him, for what? So he might break the truce? A hospitable lord does not invite one in under truce then insult him, goad him - if you truly wished a noble feast, then you would have been wiser to learn more of Roman Christian ways. I have seen naught but Saxon England and the Vandals and Romans insult one another, ruining all hope for me to have a pleasant evening.
"I and my party shall retire, but will remain and hope that tomorrow, all will act civilised and cease such childish insult-tossing. It is beneath us Lords of men, after all..." then, he turned and headed for the exit, his entourage following him. "I must confess my disappointment that nations not of christian faith cannot put aside petty hates in the hopes of peaceful celebration - and that christians can be treated fairly. Religion does not define nationality, gentlemen..."

When the Frank had left, Hengest turned to his nearest companion and uttered: "Christians, have no stomach for a fight!". The Man sniggered, before continuing with his meal.
Taking a brief look at Queen Ilsabella, being the only christian left in the room, and a woman at that, Hengest thought she must be fearful of the others. She was undoubtedly told of tales of terror at the hands of the pagans, Papal Propoganda. Briefly, to her he spoke:
"Do not fear me, for I shall not render anything upon you unprovoked,"

OOC: I haven't said that I'm Christian or Pagan. I have done it for a reason.
IC:
Ilsabella sat down where the Roman had left and shook her head, picking up a piece of fruit and tenderly biting off a small mouthful.
"I don't fear you, I pose the same threat as anyone else, I don't choose war, there are alternatives." She sighed and looked at the men siting around her. "I'm not siting here today because I agreed with the kings words, I will fight as a last means."
She took another bite. "I am here to enjoy the feast that Emperor Claves has kindly offered, I will not insult him or any of his guests, as I am just a guest. This occassion was to be a rejoice for the harvest not tourment on each other." She finished her piece of fruit and looked at Claves, a gentle smile creeping across her lips,
"Do you dance?" She asked,

he chuckled, "It has been many a year since a fair woman has asked me for a dance, though I suppose I shall try again. Would you do me the honour of having this dance?" He said rising and bowing before her a hand extended

OOC: Ok, mere assumptions.
IC: He watched as Agrixus and the Visigoth talked merrily. Here were the overlords of two mighty kingdoms, whom had severe border disputes over the South of the Iberian Peninsular. And yet, they talked in a civilised manner and were rather friendly to one another. He woudl attempt to do the same with Roland the next opportunity

"The Bretons are amalgamating into the Frankish Kingdom quite well," Roland's aide told him. "The Avars and Burgundians are all but the one now, unified by your prior marriage. Under your rule they even now share the same province. The Gallo-Romans as ever persist with the changing times, but like the Franks who founded this kingdom they are moulding into the other tribes and provinces, spreading across as you ahd hoped. The Franks are your administrative arm, with no single base or home now as you had aimed for: their name is now but a byword for the unified peoples you rule coming together as one."
"And of the Aquitanians?" Roland asked, as he wrote into his journals calmly. "How do they fare under my rule?"
"So far they have not objected," the aide responded. "By your command with all peoples under your realm, they have been allowed keep their customs so long as they do not conflict with Christian law, and they pay the taxes and obey laws so there is no trouble. Their current lord is old, and his son may soon take over rulership - he is unmarried, so the possibility to merge their dynasty with another exists."
"We shall see what would be the best course..." Roland replied, laying his quill down and staring straight ahead sighing before looking to his aide. "It is all coming together, at long last... my dreams and ambitions coming to fruition... and soon our people shall rule not a kingdom but a mighty Empire.... my dreams of a Frankish Empire will soon be reality..."

A Guard ran in, interupting the banuet.
"Sir! The Romans have set the Saxon vessel alight!"

The music halted abruptly. Seeing an angered bunch of Pagans in the room, Agrixus wuickly spoke with a raised voice. "PLEASE, stay calm. I cannot say it is suprising that such treachery be commited in my city by the Romans, but I also cannot say it was entirely unprovoked. As I have disregarded my treatment of the Romans during their short stay. I will provide a ship for the Saxons on their return voyage and will have some of my best sailors sail it for them. Now if those here approve, then let the band resume and the festivities continue."

The doors were still open as Roland returned to the hall, having now business to attend to with his reports, overviews and writings done for the evening. He heard what had transpired, and a strange smirk appeared on his face. "Trust the Romans to be so devious, eh?" he joked to the gathered crowd. "For a moment I feared the Saxons would be stranded here..."
Looking at Ilsabella in Agrixus' company for a moment, the smirk left his face as he bowed his head. "Still having to deal with many dancing partners, good Queen? I sincerely hope they are up to par." Then, he turned to one of his own Frankish noblewomen and outstretched his hand, escorting her out on the floor. "Shall we? This is a festivity after all is it not?"
Dance, celebrate, throw them off... but you and I have business soon, Agrixus. We have much to discuss...

Shocked and angered by the assault on his ship, Hengest was only silenced at the command of Agrixus. Things became more calmed as Roland re-entered and began to dance merrily, but the Pagans still seemed outraged to say the least. The assurance of a nw ship was thanked of the Vandal King, future relations seemed clear.
Hopwever, with the Normans not heeding the Frankish word, and the Romans seemingly taking up the offer of crusade, England may be endangered
