Ilsa looked at Roland and smiled, "Up to par indeed, maybe you should dance with me to?" She asked as Agrixus moved her around the floor. She looked back to her partner and smiled broadly.
"If a man can dance well I trust he is good with his people." She added quietly.

Smiling, he said calmly to Ilsa "I am an old man and the day has been long, surely one of the more robust Kings can tkae my place."

Stepping from jhis own partner, he looked to Ilsabella and smiled. "I would be honoured - though after this dance, I must speak with Emperor Claves on urgent matters." Extending his hand, he then added, "I am skilled in many arts, not just war and government. Come and judge for yourself..."

Hengest noted the fact Roland needed to speak with Claves, for he needed this also. The Vandal Kingdom was one in times of peril, and beign his ally he seeked to fix this.

Agrixus sat down at his table a bit tired, and drank out of a cup containing a thick black liquid, smelling quite strong after he drank some he whiped his teeth of a black grain left there from the drink. He seemed a bit more invigorated after this, as though the drink had given him a renewed energy.

"Of course Hengest, in private or here?" he gestured towards a side door. His guards looked a bit worried but a glance from him put them at ease.

"It Matters not if anybody overhears," said Hengest walking p to Agrixus, " I have an idea, a grand trade route to put all others in shame, from London to Carthage, bearing the fruits of the Britons and the Vandals,"

"I am very inclined to this, trade can always be welcome here. Though what would your kingdom supply mine with and what would you askin in return?"

"We could supply ale and other goods, beef and salt, gold from Ireland and Iron from the hills of Wales. We ask for whatever exotic goods you can fetch from the meditteranean,"

Post by King Roland I on Sept 19, 2005 10:34:09 GMT
As Roland and Ilsabella danced, one of Roland's men approached him, tipping him on the shoulder and whispering in his ear. What he said was of importance, as Roland ceased his dance. Turning to face the man, he asked, "who has gone already?"
Again, the man whispered a response - careful not to talk too loudly about these matters when surrounded by pagans. Just pagans around myself and Ilsabella... Roland thought. The news was troubling, and it meant he had to change his plans. Which meant it was now or never - it was time to shake the pagan world to its foundations.
Stepping up to the band, he requested they fall silent, then turned to the assembled rulers. His guards and entourage formed up around him in a protective circle - just in case. "Great rulers of great lands, I bring news from the north!" he said loudly, to grab the attention of everyone present. "It has come to pass that the great enemy of many pagans here, the Pope, has died - and a new Pope elected. As a Christian, I must attend his inaugaration feast and so must depart for Rome. I wished more time to prepare to say this, but I have been granted none, so I ask you hear me now when I announce the beginning of a new era..."
"Emperor Agrixus, as a gesture of good faith to the Franks, you gave my court your word you would on this date send gold to my lands. I ask you now to keep your word of honour - I hope to see it paid in full on my galley which has pulledi nto dock this morn. I look forward to continuing relations between us, Emperor and hope to enjoy your hospitality soon. Now...
Roland paused, allowing that to sink in to the Vandal before continuing.
"As many of you know, I had a wife - who died long ago. Heirless, I have nonetheless continuned on claiming no other bridge until I had completed my works to state and my heart healed. That time has come; I have found myself a new love, and am announcing that once I leave Rome I shall be wed. My bride to be is herself in this very room... I am to marry Queen Ilsabella Varousa of the Visigoths and the marriage shall signal the union of our realms."
Again, he paused, gesturing to Ilsa and offering her a warm smile. "Now, forgive me making this so short and abrupt, but I must prepare to depart. I hope I will be forgiven for this early departure from the Feast, and will send word soon to all present." Then, he bowed to all, and headed for the exit, looking at Ilsa one last time as one of his men informed her as well of the invite to Rome.

Agrixus chuckled at the first announcement, "My dear Roland, as soon as you entered my hall it was onboard your galley, It is sad you cannot stay but your announcement of engagement is most welcoming and were you staying, we would drink till we could no longer bring the cup to our mouths, but then that must wait until a later date. I wish you fair seas and strong winds."

Hengest realised, that a merge between the Franks and the Visigoths would create a powerful kingdom. This worried him, as it would be a powerful christian kingdom, blocking the path between himself and Agrixus. If Agrixus were to fall, Hengest would soon follow. He realised now, that although they were so far apart, they acted as a symbiot, each depending on one another. He was determined now, more than ever, that Agrixus' kingdom would live to see the glory days once more.
The news of a new Pope however, may be a milestone in his campaign for Saxon Glory and the death of Christianity. 'Christianity is the disease, and the Pope is the rat' thought Hengest as he contemplated plans bound for Normandy.
