The Roman Emissary was met at the city gates of Budapest by to men on horse back. They looked down at him suspiciously. “What is your business here kívülálló ?”

The two men looked down at the emissary and shook there heads before laughing. They looked back to each other and talked between themselves in there own language then turning back to the Roman they smirked and waved him in. “You must bring this matter before the heads of the Hun Tribes.”
After they entered the city gate the guards handed the emissary off to another man who quickly led him to the central council chambers.
When entering the room one could see it to be square with marble pillars holding the roof and old gold basins with fires blazing in them to light the room. It had a feeling of history to it as if each stone of the walls and floor had a long story behind them. At the end of the room a long table stood with old stained glass windows directly behind it. Sitting at the table were five noble looking men of varying age but each with similar facial features which would lead one to the conclusion that each of these men were related in differing ways.
“Who let this buta looking kívülálló in our presence!” groweld QaraGan as he slammed his fist on the table.
“Calm yourself brother, Let the man speak” calmly replied Tai, QaraGan’s youngest brother and fellow Hun tribal leader.
“Roman disznó” QaraGan spat towards the emissary.
“Silence…. All of you… Let the man speak his peace.” shouted out Nemuri oldest of the Tribal leaders and QaraGans uncle.
With that they all fell silent though QaraGan snarled once more as he turned to listen to the emissary.

"As I told your gate-wardens, I come from Rome, asking either alliance or truce, both of which could aid both of our contries." The Emissary bowed low.

Qaragan leaned his elbow on the table and stared at the emissary with disdain.
“What Rome are you affiliated with? East or West?” Nemuri asked calmly.
Qaragan again slammed his hands on the table then stood and looked over all the other tribe leaders. “What does it matter which Rome?!, Lest we forget we Huns have always been enemies with Eastern Rome and as for Western Rome…” He then turned to look at the emissary. “They betrayed us… and there betrayal lead to the downfall of the Hun empire!, and I along with many others are certain they had a hand in my grandfathers death… the assassination of our great leader Attila. I tell you now that my Tribe which is largest and strongest will not make any deals, alliances or treaties with Roman elfajzotts and any of you do will also become my enemies”
With that Qaragan moved out from behind the council table and came face to face with the Roman. He looked down at the man and then without warning spat in his face. “Go home dog or be cut down were you stand.”
The others gasped at this gesture but none moved to stop Qaragan before he moved around the Roman and left the room.
Nemuri shook his head and sighed. “We shall try to talk sense into him but he speaks truth when he says he is strongest here among us. It is best you leave, return to whichever Rome you hail from. If we can change his mind we shall send word.

"Then I shall be saddened, though Western Rome is my hail. Our great empires could have again lived using this hour of war to grow in strength, but alas. Thank you for your audience. I shall return, with tokens of our loyalty." Said the emmisarry before bowing and leaving.

The Emissary returned, some weeks later. He again requested entrance, and this time he brought with him a long silver sword, inscribed with latin meaning Fear this blade, for it was forged as an alliance, strong and unwavering. "This my Lord sends in token of our offer. He swears that he shall be your most noble ally in all things, and reminds you that we must unite or fall."

Three of the Hun tribal leaders(QaraGan, Tai & Hasat) sat in atendance this day and looked at the emissary as he came before them once more with tribute.
“How dare you come before us again and beg for friendship! Roman Dog! Did you not get the message last time or must I cut it into your flesh!” QaraGan groweld. This reaction caused laughter from his cousin and fellow tribal leader Hasat but a sigh and shake of the head from his brother Tai.
“Why do you come to us again Roman?, We told you if we changed our minds we would send word to you. We are reasonable people here…” Said Tai and then paused to look to QaraGan who seemed most insulted by the mans presence. “We will hear your full plea out, though only three of us are in attendance today speak and your message will be given to the others if we think it need be. Why do you seek Alliance with us Roman?”
“Yes, Why does the great Western Empire now seek friendship with those it betrayed only a generation ago? Or have you forgotten your history so soon?” taunted Hasat.

"My Lord the Emporer is not of the same state of mind as his preddecessor. He wishes to heal the hurts between our people, for he was sorely grieved when the previous Emporer did that dreadful deed. He prays you to forget the past so that we may have a stronger future together."

“Emperor Valentinian was a boy playing at a mans game, it lightened our spirits to hear of his death.” QaraGan said then smirked at the emissary.
“Indeed” replied Tai. “It was he along with his sister and mother and most of all the Grand General Flavius Aetius who were most responsible for the downfall of the Hun Empire. To this day the name of Aetius is cursed among our people even after his own murder at the hands of Valentinian.”
“Let us not forget Theodoric of the Visagoths!, he and his children had a part to play as well, though hated rivals he and Aetius joined forces against Attila and brought about the only loss in battle the Huns had ever been dealt up to that point.” Cried out Hasat as he drank a long swig of ale then unflatteringly burped.
“Yes, So you see Roman…. We have no love for your people nor love for many others, your kind cannot be trusted. You would use us as a shield against your overwhelming enemies then cast us away when we were no longer useful… or betray us when we became to powerful for you to control just as you did in my grandfathers time.” QaraGan again groweld out towards the Roman emissary.
Tai nodded this time in agreement and slowly stood from the table. “In this I agree with my brother, we have little reason to trust Rome and much reason to hate it. You give little reason for this view to change.”

"Well I believe that it is folly for both our lands. I will ask you one last time, then I shall leave. Will you not ally with us so that we can reforge our empires together?"

“Roman, You have continually asked and I’m sure some would even consider it begging for our friendship… but you have yet given us a reason to put trust in those that are known world wide to be entirely deceitful. So just as you say you ask once more I say to you one last time, Give us good reason to trust Western Rome or you shall not leave this chamber in a breathing state!” QaraGan said now in a strained but calm voice. He moved around the table as he did the first time the Emissary came before them but instead of spitting in the mans face he pulled his sword from its sheath and placed it at the mans neck. “Now… We await your reason.”

"The reasons are many, but most formost is that which is most embarrassing. We no longer have the power to do any damage to any foe if we stand alone. Therefore, even if we wanted to, betraying you would be impossible. And our reason for freindship is so together we can rebuild our Empires and live in a peaceful world. And here I swear to you, as I am Emmisarry and have the power to do so, that if you ally with us we will come to your aid whenever you are in the direst peril, which in these dark times shall be soon. You have our word." Said the messenger, kneeling before the hungarian lord. "Never shall we mislead you, never unto the ending of the world or when all men have become so evil to each other that none can remain friends. I pray to you with all my might, allow the thunder of Hunnish hooves and the drawing and Gladii be heard together, and not set against each other, in the coming times. If you reject our reasons, shameful though they be, then you should strike me down now, for I would have ratehr death than live to see the dark times to come." And the messenger lowered his head, ready for the sword of QaraGan to cleave through his neck if the termswere rejected.

QaraGan looked down at the man, then laughed loudly but this time not a cruel angered laugh but one of true amusement and delight. “It seems at last Rome has been humbled and it sees its weakness.” he said and reached his hand out to the Emissary though with his other he still kept the blade of his sword to the mans neck. “Rise Roman, by your truth telling you have finally earned the right to discuss matters with us, We shall talk further for talk is the true way of the civilized and we here despite what you may think are not barbarians.”
